Brockton Black History Tour

The Brockton Black History Tour (BBHT) is a project of Harambee Learning & Cultural Center, co-founded by Ms. Jaqueline Jones & Dr. Aminah Pilgrim. Work on the project began in 2020, soon after Harambee was established. The tour takes people on a journey through the “city of champions” that introduces them to landmarks, buildings, businesses and notable people of African descent, that put Brockton on the map. By no means an exhaustive list, the project invites community nominations and is designed with growth in mind. Using technology, a self-guided tour may be taken that will engage learners in discovering local Black history. Thus BBHT is a virtual experience, represented by an Appsite (website and corresponding App) created by the African owned web design platform Songai. We invite you to visit the site, download the app and get curious about the little known aspects of African Diaspora history right here in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Harambee Learning & Cultural Center celebrates Brockton with a focus on history, legacy and future. We look forward to growing our archive with notables from the next generation: Noube Rateau, Rui Lopes, Shaleah Gilmer, Kenny Monteiro, Ebony Gill, Mario Lamarre and many more.
